need to make D-hole for connector on front panel

Postby spikee » Sun Nov 04, 2012 11:31 am

Hello ,
I'm designing an front panel for a laboratory power supply.
I just started using inkscape and i made most of the front panel.
But i'm having trouble making the D shaped holes for my binding post.
I searched on youtube and google but i couldn't find how to do it.

Picture and measurements of the hole:

i'm having trouble with the mounting detail part.
Is there a way to make that hole ?

Thanks for any info,

Spikee

Welcome Spikee!

So you need to draw the shape in the Mounting Detail box? There may be other ways to do it, but this is how I would do it. Draw a circle that is .31 [7.6] wide . Draw a rectangle that is wider than the circle, and .27 [6.9] height. Open Object menu > Align and Distribute > Align > Relative To: Last Selection. Select the rectangle first and circle 2nd. Then click "Center on horizontal axis" and "Center on vertical axis". Then do Path menu > Intersection.

Or do you need to draw the whole thing?

Yea , i need to draw the shape in the mounting detail box. So i can laser cut the hole and fit my connector in it.
I'll try your way :)

Well, if I'm understanding correctly what a mounting hole is, I would make the first circle, then duplicate it, fill the duplicate with a light gray (this becomes a shadow), so move it to the bottom layer and also down and to the left a few pixels, then group them.
Not sure about the laser cut thing, but if you need to see through the circle you can make another circle in the circle center, do path difference to get a see through hole.
