Didn't know anyone ran into the same problem.
Svg is the best save option as inkscape is much based on the svg specification,
Can you show us an example svg where you lost your gradients?
If you set a font not common in use, that may have resulted in browsers not rendering the exact same you designed.
Texts can be converted to paths by pressing Shift+Ctrl+C, for print-only files it can be a solution,
which would also make the svg displaying the same letters in every browser.
Or you may used a flowed text, which is not yet in the svg specification, thus not rendering in browsers.
You can convert flowed texts to non-flowed ones by pressing Shift+Alt+W.
Perhaps you tried to save as eps, that couldn't handle gradients/alpha channel as well?
Save as jpeg is not an option.
Jpeg is a lossy raster image format, with that you would lose the benefits of the vector format.
If you still want a raster copy, for the best results use the export to png option, where you can set the resolution of the rasterisation.
The save as png doesn't give you that setting ability, it is fixed there.
