New Palette

Postby arachnic » Tue Jan 24, 2017 8:31 pm

Hi

In the past I have created a colour palette in Gimp and moved it across without any problem. However, I needed to edit the palette and save as a separate name. My problem is that whenever I have saved the palette it is not showing up in the available palettes. I have checked the location etc but having spent a good 4 hours I am stumped

Hope someone can help

Did you restart Inkscape? You need to close all Inkscape windows.

Where did you save the palette? It should be in your user config directory, in the subdirectory 'palettes'.

Is the file format exactly the same as for the palettes that come with Inkscape?

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I put the palette in inkscape/shared/palettes

With regard to the names I have tried to create a totally new palette and I have tried to alter an installed palette while only changing the colour codes. The later has meant the removal from the list of available palettes.

I have tried restarting inkscape and the computer to no avail. Might try a reinstall if all else fails

The palette I created was copied into the Gimp and is available so I can't understand the problem. Any ideas welcome

I'd suggest you rather put the palette into the user configuration directory, into the subdirectory 'palettes'. Else it will be wiped out on Inkscape update.
(See: Edit -> Preferences -> System: user config)

I think that maybe something with your palette file format is wrong, if editing removes it from the list. Things that you could check are the encoding and the line break format.

You can also post one of the problematic palette files to get more help.

Well, this is one of those "no way!" moments...

Change "Gimp" for "GIMP". :D

That worked for me.

Yep. Also fixing the linebreak will be helpful (at 'FIV' - 'E')

(Is it valid in Gimp without the capitalization?)

Apparently not, at least 2.8.16 will not import the palette unless you change it to "GIMP".

Thanks for testing, @Uktrunie! So it's not an Inkscape issue, but just a problem with the file not being well-formatted.

Hope it works for you now, @arachnic!

Made the changes you both suggested and problem solved. Many thanks for your time and effort. Greatly appreciated
