Hi Friends,
I was just contacted by a forum member via PM, asking for a copy of Examotion's Renesis Player files. A quick investigation shows the Examotion site either closed, expired, or hacked. Does anyone know what's going on?
I did a quick google, thinking if they closed their site, they likely have offered the files through another website somewhere. It turned up a couple of results for softwareDOTinformerDOTcom. Don't visit the site without antispyware protection. When I did, I had 2 alerts from MBAM (Malwarebytes Anit-Malware). I haven't been using it for long, so haven't figured out how to show exactly what kind of malware, but I will investigate, of course, and report if necessary. Could be a false positive for all I know at the moment, which is "IP Block", listing the IP address.
Anyway, I communicated with Renesis support, not so long ago, and was told it's under active development. So I would be surprised if they closed down. Here's the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renesis_Player Again no sign of problem. I wonder if they've been hacked?
Thanks for any comments

Re: Examotion (Renesis) site closed or hacked???
Note - "IP Block" meant that Malwarebytes found something malicious about the domain. But MBAM update resolved the alert. I'm guessing it was a false positive, corrected with last update, but have not looked up specifics. McAfee Site Advisor lists software.informer.com as a "green site". But I have no personal experience with the site, so download at your own risk.
Still awaiting info about Examotion website....anyone?

the secondary site you mention doesn't let you dload just the file..It has its own 'client' software that you need to dload first. So I wouldn't advise that

Re: Examotion (Renesis) site closed or hacked???
Ok, this is the documentation with the Thumbnail plug-in.
It's my understanding that the Renesis Player consists of 3 individually downloadable plug-ins. Meaning that this copyright applies to all three plug-ins. Unfortunately, I've only installed the Thumbnail plug-in on this computer, so I'll have to look at the documentation for the plug-in which is supposed to display SVG images in Internet Explorer later (sorry I forget what it's called). I've never even downloaded the 3rd plug-in and also can't remember what it's called.
Anyway, it looks like a full copyright, NOT distributable? (although I don't know what "GmbH" means, I don't think it refers to the copyright)

Re: Examotion (Renesis) site closed or hacked???
if all you're after is some svg support in IE, then there are some alternatives to the Renesis player, including the old Adobe plugin, or the newer google chrome plugin for IE. google also hosts and actively develops SVGWEB project, which is an emulation layer via flash. it's not too compliant at the moment and is more geared to hosting svg for IE and other browsers, without having users download a plugin..as most browsers already have flash player loaded. good luck.

GmbH is a German form of company. Very common in Germany.
