Disappearing Glyphs

Postby Dreamo » Sat Aug 30, 2014 2:46 am

I've been trying to make my own font for a while, and I have all the characters drawn up (in Inkscape). I've been looking for a way to make my drawings a ttf or otf file that I can actually use on my computer, and I found out that Inkscape had a built in svg font editor that I could submit my characters to, create an svg font and then use a free converter to convert to ttf or otf. The tutorials I've been looking at show that you go to the text menu and select svg font editor, which brings up a dialog. Then the tutorials say to click "new font" and then go to the glyphs tab. At this point, each of the tutorials shows the glyphs tab filled with rows of glyphs and corresponding letters next to them. When I create a new font, and then go to the glyphs tab it is completely empty. If somebody has a solution to my problem or has a better way of creating a font please tell me!

First click on the add glypth button at the bottom, then click on the field next to the appearing glypth name, and type in the character you want to assign a path to.
Then after, click on the get curves from selection.

Tried it the first time now, but it did work for me.

May get better options with fontforge than with an online font conventer.
(Kerning, hinting, ligatures and what not.)
