Using image as a pattern

Postby ksachdeva » Thu Aug 16, 2012 1:04 pm

Hi,

I have an image that I would like to use as the pattern for my objects. In order to accomplish this I fist import the image on canvas, select it and use "object to pattern" menu.

Once this is done I draw my rectangle and in the Fill I go to the checkerboard area where I find the pattern and selecting it does apply to new rectangle.

The problem I am facing is that the pattern in my rectangle also has a vertical black line. How would I get rid of this line ? or How can I prevent this line from appearing in the first place.

Regards & thanks
Kapil

It would be a lot easier to reply if you could show us a screenshot or even better .svg file.

Still, it sounds like you`re experiencing some of the glitches of Inkscape. It could be related to pixel alignment, which could leave traces as you described it. Since pattern represents a stack of the same image/object, Inkscape has some difficulties to align them as desired if some of the pixels are hanging on the side. I`m not sure if this is a case, but it would help if you could show us how does it looks on your side.

When I had to resolve these hanging pixels I made a clip mask (rectangle) over the imported image and then made a pattern out of it. That way Inkscape would shape a pattern to the size of the clip mask and it worked better, for me.

It could also be just a matter of the screen rendering. It might show up on some higher zoom levels but it could be invisible at 1:1 / or vice versa.

Welcome Kapil!

I agree with Maestral. At least a screenshot would be helpful. Usually when we encounter the line between tiled patterns, it's described as white. But there are circumstances where it could appear black.

In the case of a rendering issue, in my experience, there is a lot of fine detail with heavy contrasts in whatever kind of object is having the problem. I'm not sure if I've seen these rendering issues appear as a straight line, but I guess it could.

If the pattern image has any transparency, maybe you're seeing something underneath the rectangle?
