Esper, I've also written an article about this topic: http://vektorrascheln.de/posts/2015/Dec ... linux.html
(which pretty much describes his workflow, too, but also lists the alternative workflow as described in the link from Brynn. It has been published in freiesMagazin, and I've updated it a few weeks ago.)
For my very recent projects, though, I've switched to asking the printing service to convert for me from RGB to CMYK, they do it for free and it has given me good results up to now. They sent me a printing proof pdf for checking before they actually printed. I'm not going to advertise for the company here, but if you'd like to know the printing service used for Kieler Open Source und Linux Tage, send me a PM.

Interesting, Alexandre Prokoudine added a comment. He suggests using ICC profiles and tweaking the colours in the CMS tab.
