Splitting a svg into multiple pieces

Postby theomajigga » Fri Mar 16, 2018 2:35 am

Hey all, new owner of a K40 laser cutter/engraver I am trying to make my first project for myself here.

Took a large jpg, used bitmap trace to get what I have now. Changed the stroke to the "red" for cutting but the image won't fit in my cutting bed. I want to keep the overall size of the piece as it is, as I would like to cut it into acrylic (two or more pieces), and do a gunpowder burn onto a hardwood, after attaching the bits together.

I believe my cutter can do 200x300mm. But I cannot seem to get this to do what I want. I tried the following solutions, that didn't work.

a) might have worked if I started by splitting the image, and THEN doing the bitmap tracing, but I feel like I have "come to far" to start over.

a) Just plain didn't do "anything" for my svg file.

Looking what my next step is :)

Here's a way to cut in two:

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
