Inkscape File REFUSES to load

Postby Emperor Ing » Thu May 05, 2011 5:07 am

Put simply, I get the "Failed to load the requested file ...DOTsvg"

Normally I can just open it up in Notepad and fix the tags at the end of the file.

In fact i've had this problem REPEATEDLY, and yes, i've , and each time I lost 80% of the SVG file's content. Needless to say, not fun.

One thing I noticed in the Notepad is that there's a sizeable chunk of the SVG file got turned into blank space.

Now I looked it up in Firefox, and was able to get a glance at the content. I clearly have not lost 80% of the templates by default. If you don't believe me open it in Firefox. I'm uploading the SVG file. Please help, I REALLY don't wanna have to redraw this stuff.

Sorry, but I can't seem to download the file you have linked.

You could try runnin the file through scour, although not to sure that would help.

so that to me says that notepad is having some issues displaying the file contents, maybe because you've got very long lines?...typically happens when you get a file from a different operating system (and file system) where line ending character(s) differ. Text file editors don't actually display this character (or characters) but act on them to show line break etc. You can use various editing programs to either fix the problem on the files or some editors will just work with them without problem. Notepad in particular (don't know if true in win7) also has issues with files larger than about 2Mb. You may like to switch to something like wordpad or gvim or some programming editor like ultraedit etc that have less issues with your files.

Ok, this file is way to large to deal with sensably.

Tried opening it with gedit. Just opened. took forever to move around
It loaded into Google Chrome, but said error: mismatched tags on line 343230 ish (the end of the file)
Opened it with scour; that complained of miss-matched tags as well
Opened it with firefox; here it gave me a passing error and firebug baulked...

In summery DON'T make files that big. Even text editors struggle to open them...

Ok, got google chrome and scour to stop complaining (was missing a </g> tag at the end of the file). Lets see if Inkscape will open it...

Yes! Still a really really large file... Would probably be a good idea to spilt it up.
