Keyboard shortcut for stroke weight?

Postby Pureon » Fri Aug 21, 2009 5:00 am

Hi All,

An opensource project I'm texturing for requires shapes with 2 exact stroke widths. My question - Is there a way to add new keyboard shortcuts that can force the stroke of an object to a specified number?

I use a modified Illustrator keyboard shortcut set for Inkscape as that's what I'm used to. There's a plugin for Illustrator that lets you set stroke weights...anything similar possible here?

BTW big thanks to the Inkscape developers, it's an invaluable program for young people who can't afford Adobe ;)

Answering my own question-

Couldn't find any action in the xml to change stroke widths, but found the Paste Style action worked very well for what I required. Lots of really nice options available in Inkscape, starting to feel much more confident with it :D

Generally though Illustrator keyboard shortcut's should be easier to implement by the average user (there should be a way to switch between the shortcut xml files in Inkscape's preferences). Although I do prefer the Inkscape shortcut system, which seems very logical, it is very different to the shortcuts I am used to.

Also the Illustrator shortcuts in the xml are incomplete - there is no way to delete objects and many other important actions have been left out.

I am sure there already exist more than one Wishlist item in the bug tracker ;-)

Since you have insight in both Illustrator and Inkscape as well as into the format used in 'keys/default.xml', I am sure any contribution to enhance and improve the Inkscape experience for Illustrator users would be highly welcome and appreciated! If you have any additions to the shipped keyboard mappings in 'keys/adobe-illustrator-cs2.xml' - please do open a ticket on the bug tracker and attach your proposed improvements! After review chances are good that it will be added to the official Inkscape version (I hope ;-).

Reading my comment again I do sound like a bit of a ****, but it wasn't intended like that, honest :?

Haven't looked at the bug tracker yet, thanks for pointing it out to me.

My file is a mixture of shortcuts from various programs - Gimp, Blender, Inkscape, and Adobe all use different shortcuts, some that work better than others depending on what the programs are used for.

I might work on enhancing the current adobe-illustrator-cs2.xml file, even if all I do is add some of the most critical actions (like delete). Would be interesting to hear what other users of the adobe-illustrator-cs2.xml file are missing shortcuts for.

That wasn't my impression at all - I just felt the need to jump in and kind of drag your knowledge into Inkscape ;-)

BTW in case you haven't guessed by my post in another thread, I am planning to improve the Illustrator shortcut file and then submit it.

But only after a few new actions are implemented by the programmers! Yes, blackmail :D
