Tango Icon theme under Mac OS X

Postby duckgoesoink » Wed Apr 14, 2010 1:41 am

Hello,

Excuse me if this is obvious (but after a day searching the internet it doesn't appear to be). I would like to know how to use the tango icon theme under Mac OS X. On Ubuntu it's easy to do, but I don't know where to start for Mac.

Thanks a lot for any help. :-)

Have you searched these forums? I remember seeing...at least 1 or 2 other topics about the Tango icons. If they're not about Mac, then just hang on. I'm sure some others will reply.

Assuming you use the packaged Inkscape application from sourceforge.net:
  1. quit Inkscape
  2. open the Finder, browse to the folder where you installed Inkscape (usually in '/Applications', or maybe in '~/Applications'), select the Inkscape application icon, right-click (or ctrl-click) it and choose 'Show Package Contents' from the context menu
  3. in the new Finder window browse to 'Contents > Resources > icons'
  4. rename 'icons.svg' to icons-orig.svg'
  5. rename 'tango_icons.svg' to 'icons.svg'
  6. start Inkscape
Keep in mind that the file 'tango_icons.svg' might not be as up-to-date as the default 'icons.svg'.

@brynn - yes I tried a search before posting - I didn't see anything related to tango icons on Mac though. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I did definitely try - standard procedure before posting in any forum. :-)

@~suv - thank you very much, that worked perfectly. You've made my day. :-)

I have done this, and my icons did switch to tango, but there are some missing icons -- like the spray icon, and the vacuum for 'vacuum defs'. The thing is, I can open tango-icons.svg and see that these icons exist in there. Why wouldn't they show up in inkscape?

I don't understand the convention for theme icons in inkscape. the tango-icons.svg file is laid out differently than the default one. Any ideas?

(btw I'm on windows so this doesn't seem to be platform-specific.
