Simplify Meshes preserving some corners

Postby adin » Mon Oct 17, 2011 6:03 pm

Hi,
I'm working with some mesh plots, but they are too huge that slow me down. So, I was trying to simplify them. However, I just found that the simplify tool is built in such a way that it treats the corners as a "mistake," and it smooth them out. :|

So I'm wondering if there is any way to simplify (or reduce the size of) the mesh while preserving the grid-like structure? :?

Thanks

I'm not sure whether Inkscape thinks some nodes are a mistake, or if it just happens to remove some important nodes along with everything else. I don't know exactly how Simplify chooses which nodes to delete, though. Using Simplify once usually doesn't cause a noticeable change. But if you do it more than once, the change is more noticeable.

The only other way I know of, is to select nodes and delete them manually. You could select many nodes at once, but that sounds like it might be time consuming for your project.

You could try File menu > Vacuum defs, which removes unused data from the file. But unless you've done a lot of editing, probably won't do much in your case.

Maybe someone else will have a better idea?
Good luck :D
