Hello,
This is my first post here. I am trying to design a vector based logo in Inkscape. I have never used this before and I'm a total newbie. My logo was made on an Apple with iWeb and Pages and both are not vector based. When I view my logo on a larger screen, it gets all pixelated; thats because I can only import my logo as a PDF file which iWeb converts to JPEG. I need to have a program that will scale up my logo without distortion. Also, when I did a cursory search, I did not find the font that I need, Helvetica Neue Light. How can I import this font from my Apple computer into iWeb. If anyone would like to have a go at recreating the logo here, I would greatly appreciate it. It would save me a lot of time too.
Thanks,
David

Re: How to Import a Font (Helvetica Neue Light) into Inkscape?
Well, I didn't answer this before, because I'm not familar with Apples or Macs and such. But I looked up iWeb, which appears to be a wysiwyg editor for creating webpages with Apple/Macs....do I have that right?
But the next step, I'm not clear at all what you're doing. First you say
But then
So you're trying to reproduce the same logo using Inkscape? For any font to be available in Inkscape, it must be installed on the same computer as Inkscape. But how to get the font into iWeb, I have no idea -- maybe look in iWeb's documentation??
Import the logo to where? Inkscape - can import more than just PDF. Import to iWeb - no clue.
If you need the existing logo in vector format (the logo you provided in your message) you should be fairly successful using Trace Bitmap (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Trace.html). Import PDF or JPG. Or it's a simple enough logo, that you could recreate it easily with the Text tool.
However, if the logo is to be used on a webpage, it will have to be converted from SVG to some raster format, like JPG. It will not be scalable without loss while it's on the webpage. You should make it to look like you want to fit the larger screen. Because scaling down does not produce the same distortion as scaling up. So people who view it on a smaller screen, it will not be as noticable.
So somewhere in here, I hope you find what you need. Or else if you could clarify the problem, I'll be glad to try again...or someone else
