How to repeat an object by a geometrical pattern?

In a simple 2D arrangement like

Hi.

For 2D you can use tiled clones.

For 3D? Not much with inkscape only. You can use tiled clones above each layer/group of objects but cannot add a perspective transform (still preserving the clone link) so the closest you can make will be looking with an orthographic projection.

Try Blender for open source 3D modelling.
