Hello folks,
I'm using inkscape 0.47 and as the title suggests I'm having problems with Tiled Clones and Trace. I've tried to follow this tutorial http://verysimpledesigns.com/vectors/in ... paper.html, using their testfiles (shape of australia), step-by-step and doublechecked every little step, but the result is always the same and odd.
Let me explain: Normaly I should have a shape of australia existing of many little stars. Well, all I get is a very rough shape (filled withthese stars) plus many stars in different sizes outside the real shape and out of place.
Same if I follow this halftone tutorial (basically the same thing) as described here: http://istarlome.deviantart.com/art/hal ... e-85648573
Is there a known problems with tiled clones + trace method in 0.47 or does anyone have an idea what I might be doing wrong?
thanks in advance
moira
Problem with Tiles CLones and Trace
Under the tiled clones dialogue, select "pick from the drawing: Opacity." instead of colour.
That is the simplest way around the problem.
Alternatively, place a white rectangle behind the image to be traced.
The reason why the problem happens, is that Inkscape follows the numeric coulor as calculated by: the (black value, from CYMK)*(opacity) so solid black = 0*1 and solid white = 1*1 BUT transparent half gray =.5*0,so black and transparent areas have the same "numeric colour"

Re: Problem with Tiles CLones and Trace
Thanks tomh,
I already had a white rectangle behind the traced object (plus I grouped the rectangle with that object before).
I tried a bit with different options and the best so far is:
[x] Trace the drawing under the tiles
1. Pick from Drawing
[x] Color
2. Tweak the picked value
default values (0,0 & 0,0%)
3. Apply the values to the clones
[x] Opacity
Unfortunately the clones now have all the same size with decreased opacity on the borders of the traced objects (which is not the biggest problem as I can change the opacity easily). So, besides the missing size variation of the clones I can live with the results for now.
Thanks

Re: Problem with Tiles CLones and Trace
Found a real solution as described in this bugreport:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/469885
So all I had to do was:
1. Follow the steps in the tutorial (from my first post)
2. After Tracing the object, create a new layer and move the original "Clone" to that layer and the created "clones" magically move on their correct places and all is fine!
