problem with drop shadow

problem with drop shadow

Hello,
I can produce text with no problem. When I re-select that text and then apply a drop shadow, a odd sort of edge clipping happens. See the attachment and look at the top line. Notice the bottom of the g and the last letter e.
What am I doing wrong?
