hello and thanks -
when i apply a filter to an image, it changes the bounding box so the bounding box does not hug the image anymore. Going to "geometric bounding box" in preferences makes the width hug the image, but the height of the bounding box is still jacked. I have remedied this by "tracing a bitmap" of the image (the traced bitmap of the image then has a correct bounding box) but that is VERY laborious for what im doing. Any way to get the Bounding box to just hug the actual image, and not some phantom area of an image created by adding a filter??
thanks !!!
PS - first time on here - so not sure how to add an image - in case anyone wants to see what im explaining here -
filter changes bounding box size
Re: filter changes bounding box size
What kind of filter are you applying ?
Some filters (drop shadow...) need extra space around the image so that they can be applied.
Some (inner shadow...) probably don't need these space but it is still there until you explicitly remove it.
I don't have inkscape before me right now, but to remove it it must be something like this
To remove it you need to go to the filter editor (menu Filters). Select the filter applied to your drawing and go to general settings and set all values to 0.

Re: filter changes bounding box size
The geometric bounding box should fix for both dimensions. So I think we would need to see the SVG file with the image that has this problem.

Re: filter changes bounding box size
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you helpful folks. Believe it or not - i couldnt find where i wrote this question! Thanks for the replies.
Yes - im using quite a few filters, and the reason the bounding box is larger than the (visible) image is because it is allowing for the filter. But - that is my whole problem. After applying a filter, i still need to line things up, make sure images are in the same place relative to each other using the align tools (align top edges, line up sides), etc. And the align tools utilize the bounding boxes - NOT the visible image for their reference points. Changing the bounding box preferences to geometric or visual does not solve the problem, because as i said in the OP - it hugs one dimension and not the other.
does that make sense?
So - i was trying to find out if their is a way to (without effecting the image) shrink the bounding box around the VISIBLE part of the image again - just like before the filter was applied.
anyone know how to get the bounding box to ignore the filter and hug the image?
thnaks again!

Re: filter changes bounding box size
The geometric bounding box should fix it for both dimensions. Since it doesn't, and since it sounds like you have a complex situation (with quite a few filters), we'll need to see the SVG file, to figure out what's going wrong.
One tip that might work. If you're going to apply more than one filter, you should group the object with the filter, before applying a new filter. Don't apply 2 filters without grouping in between.
