Hello,
I'm new to Inkscape, but I very much like what I've seen.
I received a PDF from someone and it uses some fonts which I'm pretty sure are on my system, but may use slightly different names (e.g. Helvetica Compressed versus Helvetica Condensed). When I convert the PDF to Inkscape it does not choose the correct font for this case. Is there an explanation somewhere that explains how Inkscape matches the font names from the PDF to what is installed in the system? Perhaps I simply need to tweak the font names installed on my system to get the proper match.
Second, is there a global way I can change the font Inkscape chose to the intended font?
Perhaps through the XML itself? The XML files are quite large though at around 25MB each so hunting down all the cases may be difficult. Though I can write a script to do it if it comes to that.
Thanks,
Terry
Font Selection when Converting PDF
Re: Font Selection when Converting PDF
I haven't found a document detailing the internal font matching yet. But maybe the discussion in Bug #179589 “PDF Import: spaces removed from font names” gives you some hints where to look for and what is actually done...troyd2010 wrote:Is there an explanation somewhere that explains how Inkscape matches the font names from the PDF to what is installed in the system?
Inkscape 0.49 will include a script extension to list and replace font names used in the current document:troyd2010 wrote:Second, is there a global way I can change the font Inkscape chose to the intended font?
Bug #171007 in Inkscape: “Font Find and replace added to the Text dialog”.
You can download the extension files from inkscape trunk (replace_font.inx, replace_font.py) or an older version from Craig's external repository. The extension was also announced here in the forum: New Inkscape Extension: Replace Font
Re: Font Selection when Converting PDF
Thank you very much for the answers.
I think in my case it was a true name mismatch between used fonts and installed fonts and not the spaces issue. After playing with the font names on my system I was able to get them to match.
Thanks,
Terry
