Scanne Image not in PDF saved from Inkscape - HELP - URGENT

Postby dwallacetx » Fri Mar 28, 2014 11:51 pm

Hello All:

I am new to Inkscape.

My background is CAD (AutoCAD + MicroStation) and CorelDraw.

Here is the issue -

1. A survey drawing was scanned - raster (tif) created in 2006.
2. In 2006, this tif was edited and some vectors were added via AutoCAD and Coreldraw to update the image and a PDF was produced from Coreldraw.
(The PDF contains both vector and raster data).
3. In 2014, an update was requested.
4. I am no longer using Coreldraw, so I opened the PDF in Inkscape, made the edits I need - and when I try to create a new PDF - I get no raster!

I apologize if this is such a rookie question - I am learning Inkscape and I am really impressed - but I am having a difficult time with this one task.

FYI - the deliverable is a 36" wide by 24" tall PDF (paper print).

Using any filters? Sometimes filters interfere with rendering of large images.

If you can post a link to the file, it may expedite a solution.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Hi.

Do you have the "rasterize filter effects" ticked off in the save PDF dialog?

I just tested exporting a 24 by 36" image with a 2621 x 2843 pixel image embedded without problems.
What Inkscape version? (I am using Inkscape 0.48+devel r13149.)
What operating system?
How much memory on your system? (Mine 16Gb RAM).

Thank you everyone -

I am using Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939 (installed from Linux Mint 16)
OS = Linux Mint (Ubuntu) 16
No filters
Memory - that may be the problem - 2Gb
Everything appears ok - it behaves as if the image is view only - no print/export capabilities.

Hi.

Your svg was created from a pdf, which has some weird implementation of things most times.
Like, the raster image you have in the background is a group of two objects, one of which is a rectangle that has a mask object, which is the negative of the raster image you originally had back in the day.
Re-saving that to pdf makes it won't appear, the masking was too much to bear?
So to solve that, you would need to replace it with a raster image which is the negative of the embedded one -used as a mask-, and leave out such masking part.

Another thing that cause issues is that your page borders aren't set around the drawing exactly.
To correct that, open the document's properties tab (Shift+Ctrl+D) and preferably set those around a selected object.
