suddenly, I can't get inkscape to give a fill or stroke to any shape. i am in "normal" view.
I see absolutely nothing to cause this. any suggestions?

Did you check the layer opacity (in the 'Layers…' dialog), as well as the global opacity for the current style?
You could also create a sample SVG file with a new shape/path of which you can't modify the style attributes, and attach it here… allowing others to take a closer look at what might be the cause.

Or also check for Unset styles

Why would an unset style prevent assigning a fill or stroke color to a shape? An unset fill is displayed as solid black fill, and an unset stroke is invisible (no stroke). It is still possible to change it, unless the transparency is so high (Alpha or opacity is zero) so that nothing is displayed - no matter whether the style attribute is unset or set to a specific color.brynn wrote:Or also check for Unset styles
