Exporting an .eps file . . .

Postby Inkscaper2009 » Thu Apr 02, 2009 4:57 am

In order for me to submit my designs to an online contest website I must use an .eps document format. The problem I am having is when I SAVE AS an .eps I, one, cannot reopen the file in Inkscape and, two, the image when opened from the desktop converts to a PDF with all the blurs and gradients missing. The other thing that happens is when I try to open an .svg file from the desktop it comes through Safari with many elements changed. I use the latest version of Firefox for a browser. How do I get an .eps while preserving all these various elements?

Many thanks,

Robert

heh,

i am facing similar problems. MY understanding is so far, that inkscape does not even support any vector format properly (which might be also a linux limitation in general), even not SVG. trying to save an image as eps, ps or pdf messes up some nice drawings, always. the linux support for PDF is in general very bad, unfortunately. there might be a workaround if you open the svg file in a commercial program like adobe illustrator and export it from there, which is kind of ridiculous, but the only thing I can think of now.

the issue is that not everything that can be described in SVG can be described in EPS. EPS format does not support blur and it can't have transparency in gradients. Illustrator gets around the limitation of the format by rasterising those areas of the drawing (making the EPS part vector and part bitmap). Inkscape doesn't yet have the ability to rasterise areas of drawing to work around the limitations of EPS.
