Thinner Spiros
Thinner Spiros
Is there some way I can make my spiro swirls thinner or fatter? They start out much too large on smaller icon sized images.
Re: Thinner Spiros
I'm not very familiar with the Pencil tool. But after some experimentation, I find that if I set the Shape to 'None', the result is quite thin. Does that work for you?

Re: Thinner Spiros
Thanks for your help. Actually, a guy on your IRC channel helped me with this. He said that after you make the spiro swirl, you can just go to Path > Path Effect Editor, and adjust the width.

… to share the details, quoting from the irc log:
|03:54| < su-v> ScottyBoy: spiro paths themselves use the normal stroke width. If you use both 'Spiro' mode and a shape to draw the swirls, you can change the width by adjusting the live path effect parameters of 'pattern along path'
|03:57| < su-v> with the swirl selected, open 'Path > Path effect editor...', select the 'pattern along path' effect in the list, and either a) change the width parameter (changes overall width proportionally) or b) edit the Pattern source
|03:57| < ScottyBoy> Ohhhhh, thanks. Let me try that.
|03:58| < ScottyBoy> Hey, that's awesome. Thanks!
|03:59| < su-v> if you edit the pattern source: the nodes of the pattern are located in the top left corner of the page
|03:59| < su-v> you can insert additional nodes to vary the stroke width
|04:01| < su-v> some details about the 'pattern along path' path effect: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-LivePathEffects-PatternAlongPath.html
|04:01| < ScottyBoy> Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. Inkscape has a somewhat high learning curve. [Pun intended :P ]
|04:02| < ScottyBoy> Oooo. Good link.
|04:02| < ScottyBoy> Very cool.
|04:03| < su-v> the example is quite different, but it's the same effect that is used to apply the 'Shape' to the path (single stretched, not repeated)
|04:04| < su-v> like the looong stretched lizzard further down the page ;)
|04:07| < ScottyBoy> *Bookmarks the manual.
|04:08| < ScottyBoy> Thanks again. I know that I'm going to use this a lot.
