Transparency help

Postby Myshaczek » Mon Dec 03, 2012 12:04 am

Hello everyone. I need a quick help with making png transparent image in the attachment. What I want is to have the transparent area tightly attached outside of the line and the text and the inside of the the two objects should have white background. Any idea how to achieve this? Thanks a lot in advance!

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

Let me make sure that I understand what you're asking. When you're finished, you want the black text and orange line, both to be white, and have them on a transparent background? Since I don't feel very confident that's what you mean, I will hold off on that part, until you either confirm that, or clarify what you want.

Is this already an SVG file (or other vector format), that you've made a PNG for the screenshot? Or is it only a PNG (or other raster format)? If it only exists in a raster format, you'll need to use Inkscape's Trace Bitmap, to convert to vector. But that image will probably convert very nicely! I'll explain more once I'm sure what you have and what you want :D

:) Thanks a lot. I see I did not explained my problem well.. So everything is in vectors and I want to have the transparent area only outside of the red line (which should copy the shape of the orange line to the orange line and have a nice rounded shape around the text). Everything inside the area bordered by the red line should have white background color and everything outside this area shoudl be transparent. I can provide the .svg if it is easier for you to do it than explaing it to me. Thanks a lot Brynn!

Oh, I'm glad you figured it out! You're using a cutter, aren't you?? You want to cut out the logo for like a vinyl cutter, or make stickers or labels or something? Yes, you learned that you needed to draw a new line to cut on, right? Or otherwise, fill the red path (not orange) with white, move it below the orange strip and text, and leave the outside alone.

Yeah druban, that's exactly what I thought he was asking in the first place (or she). But now I think they worked it out. (I think their 2nd message, and 3rd saying that they had worked it out was in the moderation queue while you were putting your response together. Once I approved it, the timeline has it before your message.)

You can delete my reply, then? because I can't anymore... no big deal if it's too much trouble.

I don't think it needs to be deleted, since someone else might find the technique helpful. I didn't mention it to imply it was unnecessary; I just wanted to explain how the moderated messages ended up in front of your reply. However, you should be able to delete it yourself. There should be a red X button right beside the Edit button (or maybe it's black - very small button). I'm pretty sure members can delete their own messages. Although that will leave all this extraneous jabber about it, lol. Unless you just really feel strongly about deleting it, I think it's fine to leave as is :D
