Hi,
I am trying to cut out the text from an object but can't seem to get it working. I have selected the text, then the object, then path>exclusion but it doesn't do anything. This works fine for cutting out using another object. Is there another way to do this with text?
I have tried converting to path and made sure the text is above but still not having any luck
I have attached a section
Thanks in advance for any help,
Lauren

Thank you so much! Works perfectly
Is there a way of doing it with the stroke? It doesn't matter for this but would be good to know

If you do it with the stroke, the stroke will also be on the cutout edges.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Hi.
The stroke created "problem's" in your drawing by "filling the cutout" in the cutout space.
(As it was set to the same color as the backround you did not see the effect!)
No problem to get this to work without removing the stroke - you just have to set the stroke
width lower than half the cutout size (as it's "filling" from both sides).
Try setting the stroke to a different color to see what happens when you cut the letters.
Try varying the stroke width.
Actually you can omit the "ungrouping the letters" step in my first guide.
The path difference works on groups as well.
