Exported png is pixelated

Postby VictoriaJarman » Wed Jun 26, 2019 6:05 am

Hello
I have taught myself the very basics of Inkscape and have created a logo for my business. It looks great on the screen in Inkscape but I don't seem to be able to export it properly.

I've followed the instructions on this video which was really helpful - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87zBMDxZX3k

- it blacks out the images in windows explorer (screenshot attached)
- I can't view the images on my phone - they're also blacked out
- the image is really pixelated when I upload it to my website.[url removed]

I've tried
- exporting it within the page boundaries (so lower px)
- exporting with massive px numbers outside the page boundaries
- exporting with different dpi's (350 and 90)
- saving as png (instead of export)

The file size varies accordingly, but it's pixelated regardless.

I'm sorry if there is a really obvious answer - I've tried my best to figure it out!

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Victoria

Does your website maybe automatically downscale images that are uploaded to it?

Thank you for the suggestion. I've checked and I can't see any obvious downscaling happening (it's Wordpress) but will double check that. I also can't open the files in other software (eg Pixlr - a free photo editor) or just on my phone/laptop without them appearing pixelated so it's not just a website issue... I feel it's going to be something really obvious but I can't see what!

Ok so slightly embarrassingly I think I've figured out part of the problem. It appears that my new website looks great in Chrome and IE but not Firefox! I've tried clearing the cache in Firefox but still not right. I appreciate this isn't an Inkscape question though...unless there's something I can do in Inkscape to make it more website friendly?

But I'm still puzzled as to why the images are blacked out on my computer and phone. What are the best file sizes to use?

Thanks so much.
