my edited file crashed inkscape andcannot be open again

Postby jaspisbab » Wed Apr 03, 2019 9:28 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to Inkscape so I may abused the system by creating an excessive big file.
I have the Inkscape file I have saved after each major edit step (that went on a while - I was fixing up a Trace Bitmap pic) I didn't unify nodes...etc. (I know, I knwo..)
Anyhow my graphic crashed inskape and now I cannot open it any more!
It is extremely important for me to retreive it. Is there any way to do that? I shall clear all nodes and lefotver bits there I just want my pic back badly!
Your help would be much appreciated!!
best,jaspis

You'll need to share the SVG file with us. Whatever good news there is, we don't know if it's impossible until we see the file.

If you look at the file manager, and the file is empty, then it's hopeless.

Do you know how large it was when it crashed? That will help us to figure out how much might have been lost, when we compare it to its current size.

For next time, be sure to enable AutoSave. Inkscape Preferences > Input/Output > AutoSave This will save automatic backups. Actually, if you have a current version of Inkscape, you might already have backups. I think it might be enabled by default in the current version?? That AutoSave setting will tell you where to look for them. If it's already enabled, then you should have them. If not, share the SVG file with us, and we can find out what survived.

Also, tips to prevent performance issues, which you certainly would have seen, long before the crash. https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/ind ... article=35
