I've been seeing ads for something called The Book Depository, or something like that. They show up in the right side of topic pages, but not all the time. At first, I only saw Inkscape books. But I just saw one for Fifty Shades of Gray. As long as it's only Inkscape ads, I can tolerate it. But if it's going to show other ads, I'll have to block them.

The problem is that I'm not sure how or why they are appearing sometimes, and other times not. I have an ad blocker working, so maybe I just need to block the right URL? Actually these are the first ads I've seen since installing the AdBlock Plus in Firefox, and I'm not sure I can make a custom block. But I'm pretty sure I can. If not, I'll try to use the Hosts File to block them.

I haven't determined yet if this Book Depository site is putting out the ads, or if they're going through some ad monger site. Every time I see one, I forget to check, and when I go back to the topic where I saw it, it's gone!

Anyway, any comments on these new ads?

PS - If I recall correctly, the AdBlock Plus was just upgraded with the last Ff upgrades. Maybe something changed? Maybe these ads aren't new at all??

Hhm.....is it coincidence, or do these ads only appear after you've posted a message? I get them every time I post or edit a message, but otherwise I don't see them.

Rats, I didn't get an ad that time. I keep trying to get the 50 Shades of Gray one again, or any non-Inkscape one, so I can investigate further.

Ah ha! I found the banner index, so it looks like it's only those 2 -- the Inkscape books and 50...Gray. AND hosted at InkscapeForum.com! (i.e. - not an ad monger site). I guess we should assume that there will someday be more than that? Perhaps someday soon?

Also, I finally got an ad without posting a message. If I refresh any topic enough, I eventually get an ad -- I'd say every 3rd or 4th or 5th refresh.

I have no idea why you have invested so much time investigating this. I am now, sometimes, displaying Book Depository ads. That's all there is to it. Block them or don't block them, the choice is yours.

Note that I don't ever intent to announce the changes I make to the ads. Tomorrow you might see an ad for Amazon.com, the next day Skype.com. It doesn't require analysing--just block them.

Because I wanted to find out if my ad blocker was malfunctioning. These are different, because they're hosted here. And now I will indeed have to do some researching, because I can't very well block InkscapeForum.com, without losing content that I do want to see. Fortunately for now, I'm only seeing them randomly.
