Star offset distance
Star offset distance
I think I'm just dense, but how do I switch back to the two "standard" handles for the star after adjusting the offset distance (crtl+j)? I'm using v0.48. Thanks!
Re: Star offset distance
I don't think it's possible. But you can turn it into a regular path using Object to Path.

Re: Star offset distance
Hello,
The shortcut to the
Star Tool is the Asterisk symbol * (shift+8), to toggle between any tool and the
Selector Tool you can tap the Spacebar.

Shouldn't such a thing be possible? Now that I've adjusted the offset, I would like to go back and tweak the standard handles.
@vwanweb That does bring back the start tool, but it only allows me to create a new star, not modify the current one.

I think it should. But it isn't. You could submit a new feature request/wish list "bug" to the developers via Launchpad, the Inkscape bug tracker, and developers' connection to users (https://launchpad.net/inkscape). That's the beauty of open source programs! For me, I'm content to leave the developers to work on bigger problems, and just remember to finish the object before I perform the offset. But if it's important enough to you, you're more than welcome to submit a request!

Re: Star offset distance
It is possible to switch/toggle between the Star Tool and the Selector Tool on the SAME OBJECT by pressing the Space Bar (Toggle).
There are three keys you can press to engage the Selector Tool, only ONE of them performs the Toggle function
F1 = Selector Tool - No Toggle
S = Selector Tool - No Toggle
Space Bar = Selector Tool - Toggle between the Selector Tool and whatever Tool you were using prior to pressing the Space Bar. In this case the Star Tool will switch to the Selector while RETAINING the EDITS on the CURRENT OBJECT.
You an also press the;
TAB key = select Next Object or
Shift+TAB = Select Previous.

Re: Star offset distance
Hi SVOwiz! What you are asking is indeed possible in Inkscape!
You are looking for the linked offset (ctrl alt j) command not the dynamic offset (ctrl j).
With the linked offset you make your offset, which will duplicate your object, not replace it. Now you can move your original without moving the linked clone (that's what it really is) if your preferences under clones is set to "unmoved". So you can move it off your canvas, make it invisible, etc.
Now whenever you want to edit the original parameters of your star, you select the clone offset, hit shift d, which selects the original, and change whatever parameter you want, it will be instantly updated in the clone as well.
The star key is the shortcut for the star/polygon tool which you will need to activate to change some parameters, e.g. number of corners. Or you can just double click with the selector tool.
Hope this is what you are looking for.

Your mind is what you think it is.
Re: Star offset distance
Nice idea, druban!
It can't get changed back to a star, but you can still edit it as a star by retaining the original!
