Hi all,
I'm an inkscape newbie and I would like to make a group (text + straight line grouped together) transparent on a solid black circle.
I manage to make the text transparent, but not the text+the straight line.

What it should turn into (but also with the straight line (the extension of the A) transparent:

Thanks for your help!
Making a group transparent
Re: Making a group transparent
You can put your objects on another layer and adjust the opacity slider.
Re: Making a group transparent
Assuming you used Difference, you'll need to select the line and do Path menu > Stroke to Path. After that, you should be able to difference it from the circle, just like you did with the text.
But it's hard to say, looking only at raster screenshots, exactly what you might have done. If you didn't use Difference, then please explain how you made the text transparent through the black circle.
Note that the path operations (booleans) don't usually work on groups. I think there might be an extension (multi boolean) which works on groups. But for the raw operations (Union, Difference, etc.) only work on paths, or for some circumstances, the vector shapes.

Re: Making a group transparent
Dear Brynn,
I make use of path - difference to get the transparent text.
I tried to select the line, use stroke to path and then path-difference but in that case I only get a much thinner line than the original.
The svg-file can be found here: goo.gl/9pyEXJ
Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Making a group transparent
Hi Brynn,
It does work if I do it in 2 steps (first text vs circle, than line vs circle). Thanks sooooo much!

Re: Making a group transparent
I'm not sure why it worked the 2nd time. But to make the line wider, then before you do Stroke to Path, go to Object menu > Fill and Stroke > Stroke Style tab > Width, and make the line wider. Then do Stroke to Path. And then it will be wider when you do Difference.
