Forgive me if this has been asked, the search function won't even try to find words like 'same' or 'size'.
I'm looking for a tool to make two objects the same height or width. Paint Shop Pro's vector tools allow this: Select one, then the second, and hit the same-width, same-height or same-both buttons, and hey presto, they are the same. For the life of me I can't find similar tools in inkscape.
As an example, I create a rectangle and an ellipse, and I want them to have the same width. If there's no button to do this, how might I accomplish the task?
Make items same size: how?
Re: Make items same size: how?
Copy one object, select the other and choose Edit > Paste size, there are more options you can choose from.
You can lock the object size ratio when in Selector tool (padlock icon on toolbar), this way the object won't change shape, just size.
You might also want to pay attention to strokes, they change objects size if you use Visual bounding box (there is also Geometric bounding box, you can choose between them in Inkscape preferences.)

Re: Make items same size: how?
Thanks for the very quick and useful reply. I doubt I'd have found that in a month of looking.
Re: Make items same size: how?
I have 3 graphics ( of QR-Codes) which I want to make the same size... this answer doesn't really address the question, 'how to make all three the same size' - any help appreciated.
Also a comment - a search bar on the online help manual would assist greatly
thx

Same process. Select the one with the right target size and copy it to the clipboard. Then select the second one and do Edit > Paste Size. Then select the third one and do Edit > Paste Size.
This wouldn't be a practical approach if you had 3,000 QR codes, but for just 3 it's probably the simplest method.

Shift ctrl M brings up the Transform dialog box, in which it is possible to change all the objects to one size, length or width, or both at the same time. Be warned, the pocess is a bit tricky, the clear button is your friend, and it does not always clear all the fields from the drop menu with just one click, which adds to its usefulness.
Try going back and forth between '%' and 'px', and deselecting and reselecting without closing the dialog, to get the hang of using it.,,

Your mind is what you think it is.

Rather late than never ... I prefer the following way: Mark the object with the target size, look up its width (or height) at the top of the window. Remember this number for a second, mark the object to be resized, "lock" the aspect ratio (click on the little lock next to the width) and simply type the same width.

For possible error reduction, entries can be copied and pasted.

There's no difference if you only have a single object selected. If you have more than one object selected, however, Paste Size will set the size of the entire selection, whereas Paste Size Separately will set the size of each individual object separately.
Example:
- Copy an object of 500px width.
- Select two rectangles that are next to each other.
- Paste Width will make the whole selection 500px wide, so each rectangle makes up a smaller proportion of the whole width.
- Paste Width Separately will resize each rectangle, so they both end up as 500px wide.
