Cropping a bitmap to a vector shape

Hi,

I've got a brushed metal wallpaper which I imported and a shape (simple vector image) that I created with Inkscape.

Is it possible to overlay this vector shape onto the imported image and then use that vector as a "cookie-cutter" to "cut" out and keep the shape of the vector, from the image?

If not in inkscape, any other software I can do this with?
