Inkscape file opening blank
Inkscape file opening blank
I have been working on a file- saved and closed and opened it many times before. Now when I open it, it is completely blank! There is so many days worth of work on it. Any tips? I'm using Inkscape .91. I can't attach the file here because it is too large.
Re: Inkscape file opening blank
After scaring myself to death, I remember that last night I had saved the file to a flash drive so I could work on it on another computer. So even though I lost today's work, I didn't lose everything! Today's file still opens blank, which is scary because I don't know what's causing it or when/if it will happen again.
Re: Inkscape file opening blank
In 0.91, there was an issue that when you closed Inkscape during saving, it didn't save the whole file (and a couple others like that).
So:
1. Switch to 0.92.2 (current version) to not have that issue.
2. Activate Autosave in the Preferences.
3. Save often
If you want us to take a look at the file, to see if there's something in it that can be salvaged, please share it.

Re: Inkscape file opening blank
If the file is too large to attach, even though it's blank, there's a chance the image is still "in there" somewhere. It could be as simple as - you hid the layer or all the layers? I know that happened to me once. A very complex image I had been working on for days or weeks, off and on. I opened one day and it was blank. Yikes! But then I remembered that the last time I was working on it, I was hiding and unhiding layers. And I simply had left them all hidden when I saved and closed the file.
Or it could be more complicated than that.

I totally overlooked the 'it's too large'. Yes, please upload to https://framadrop.org or any other file hosting service (e.g. dropbox, google drive,...) and share the link.

People with blank svg saves. You are not crazy. I have them also.
I can not save anything, even simple text as svg and open it containing and data.
The file saves but shows nothing.

Your file is containing a text converted to a path only, which was positioned off of the page area, thus not showing up if viewed with a browser.
Remember your document is set up with the viewbox around your page borders. Only objects within are rendered.
