Alternative to .ai format

Postby gitarmrt » Mon Mar 02, 2015 8:20 pm

Hi,

I used to export vectoral lines in CorelDRAW .ai format for using 3D sMAX.

What file type is alternative to .ai format? I try .dxf, .esp, .pdf, .plt . They are not working in 3Ds MAX

Hi.

Blender has a support for importing svg files.
A bruteforce solution would be exporting an obj made from the svg there.

Hi,

SVG is not working too :/

I just need simple lines for lathe or extrude. Is there any workaround?

I would try saving as "plain" SVG before importing to 3dsmax.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

3DsMAX says "No appropriate import module found"for plain SVG. Is tehere any way to export .ai from Inkscape?

Still, I'd suggest to use blender.
It has svg support, extrusion is even boundled into the curve's setting.

Ai is a proprietary format of adobe, so you would need adobe's illustrator or similar to save your svg to .ai.

Hi.

Try saving as PDF and rename the myfile.pdf file to myfile.ai.
It works the other way around, renaming an ai file to pdf let you import it into Inkscape.
Good Luck!

3DsMax says "Improper file format" for myfile.ai method :/

It seems impossible to do that in inkscape. Maybe i have to learn blender but i don't have time for that.

Hi.

It's a matter of getting used to shortkeys, but then you have a faster and more stabile program.
Which shortkeys you can set up by the way.
1 and 2

There are some threads you may check at blenderartist forum:

Good luck!
