Hi.
Inkscape uses paths as wires that you can bend or cut, but you cannot weld together more than two wires together in a single point.
Each nodes can be only connected to no more than two points with two segments.
You can use compound paths to draw that example.
Draw ABC, DEF, and BE parts separately, then select them all and press Ctrl+K for combining them together.
The snapping feature may help you to snap the BE segment's nodes to the ABC's B, and to DEF's E nodes.

Re: I can't join two nodes
Does snap means "to join"? Does it different from Shift+J? Where can I found that function?
Re: I can't join two nodes
Snapping - help while drawing (sticks/glues nodes according to user`s preferences, available on the snapping tool bar)
Join nodes - only for end nodes. Further explanation in the post above (Lazur URH)
Group - Gathers selected objects/shapes in the group. From now on, only group can be selected but not the elements inside the group.
Combine - Gathers all of the shapes/nodes into the one single object/shape (different from grouping)
... and it would not hurt to check Manual for even more tricks and treats ,)
If you hesitate to check Manual, even for a second, could you please tell me why? I`m not aware of the app which reads the users mind, so I believe it`s no wonder since Inkscape asks for some introduction. If there`s an app which reads users mind and adjusts it self towards user - boy, oh, boy.... I would love to use that one.
Don`t get me wrong, but I would really like to hear why, if that would be the case.

Re: I can't join two nodes
With Shift+J you can merge two nodes to one new.
The keyboard reference gives the Alt+J key combination to join unconnected nodes with a segment however I cannot get it work that way.
To join nodes with a segment, use the icon n the tool's control bar when nodes are selected if you want to.
Still it won't make connecting the B and E nodes together of an ABC DEF path, but
you could make an ABCDEF or an ABCFED or a CBADEF or CBAFED or an ABCDEFclosed path with that.
Without the snapping option used you can draw a path with the desired shape too, like, if you make an ABC DEF compound path,
then duplicate it (Ctrl+D), and use the node editor to join two nodes together,
like to the path ABCDEF, then delete all nodes except B and E,
then add the original path to the selection and combine them together.
Maybe most people are more eager to use a program than to read the manual to it before.
Even though many of them don't have the patience to experient with it and learn from their mistakes.

@Maestral: I never looked at the manual before joining this forum. Maybe most people are more eager to use a program than to read the manual to it before.
