Hello,
I was wondering how I can apply a filter to an objects fill and not its outline?
for example if I create a square and then want to apply the "airbrush filter" to the inside of that square but not the outline how do I go about doing that? in essence how can I add a texture to an objects fill?
thanks,

At the moment you cannot do it because this is not implemented in Inkscape, but that will be done in the future.
But there is a way to simulate it :
1° Draw a shape unfilled and with a stroke ;
2° Create a clone of this object (and move it just for ease) ;
3° Draw a rectangle and apply any filter to it ;
4° Put the cloned object on top of this rectangle and select them together ;
5° Do Object/Clip
6° Put your first object on top of the clipped objects and align them.
Now when you modify your first object the clone will follow your changes.
But don't forget to increase the size of your filtered rectangle if you overpass it with your changes !
