Hi all,

I've been trying to figure out for several hours now how to achieve a particular effect for a newspaper icon I've been working on. The idea was originally to make a newspaper page as a flat, perspective-less square and then apply some transformation to it later to achieve a somewhat "warped" or "rippled" look. Being fairly unfamiliar with more technical terminology, I think a picture would be best to show what I'm going for:



I've tried many related tools such as envelope distortions, pattern along path, node shaping, and using the tweak tool, but none of those quite gave the effect I wanted. Basically, I just want to shift everything in my shape (or path) vertically by a dynamic amount.

Have you tried the Bend path LPE? Seems perfect for this

I did try using the bend effect for a while, but it doesn't quite do what I want. It could be that I'm using it wrong, but if I bend the object along a path, it stretches the x positions of the object's nodes, which I don't want. I want the x positions and widths to be preserved, and only have the y positions be altered. I got the closest to achieving this effect using an envelope distortion along the top and bottom lines, but it didn't work too well when I tried to use a pasted curve as those guide paths.

Use the pattern along path extension.

That worked marvelously! I hadn't realized that I needed to add more nodes before using pattern along path, so that's what I was doing wrong.
