Pattern along Path

Postby NinKenDo » Wed Jan 25, 2012 2:36 pm

Hey.

I'm trying to design a logo using the "Pattern along Path" extension. But it's not working.

Here's what I'm working with:

And here's what happens when I attempt to use it:

It seems you're using an old extension that has in the meantime been converted to a live path effect. The extension doesn't handle groups. Try the LPE Pattern along path, you can find LPEs on the Path menu.

I can't see anything labelled "LPE" in the path menu?

Path Effects Editor, near the bottom of the menu. (LPE -- Live Path Effects. I think the developers must have dropped the "Live" to save space in the menu?)

  1. Please read the help text in the extension dialog: the pattern must be on top of the path (in z-order) in order to produce the expected result (selection order does not matter).
  2. Could it be that your 'path' does use the 'Spiro Splines' path effect? If so, try converting the path effect to a regular path first (menu 'Path > Object to Path'), before apply the extension.

And yes, the extension 'Pattern along path' does handle groups as patterns well:

Okay, I made sure the pattern was on top and made absolutely sure that the path was indeed a path and this is what I have now:

Which version of Inkscape are you using?
Have you resized your document or have you transformed your paths since drawing them?
Are you using layers?
Did you convert rectangles to paths?
The zigzaggy business is something I might associate with a transform attribute hidden somewhere. Ungroup everything until when you select everything Inkscape only says " 5 (or some number) paths selected" in the status bar at the bottom. then with everything selected, up arrow to move everything up and down arrow to move everything back down. NOW group your pattern objects and try again.
you might need to upload the Svg if this does not work...
Your mind is what you think it is.
