Sorry I would've posted this in my other thread, but when I had fixed a typo on the original post it somehow went poof!
any ways, I had managed to get colouring and shading done, but now I'm trying to use a gradient (in the hidden "scratch" layer) instead of the current green for the wings.
The problem is, when I use mask (like I had been using before) in order to trim the gradient to the wing shapes, it keeps on failing.
Use mask on ellipse with gradient fill?
Re: Use mask on ellipse with gradient fill?
In what way is it failing?
Could you tell us the steps you take, where it goes wrong, and how it goes wrong?
In case you're in a hurry, you can look up masking in the manual via Help menu > Inkscape manual.
I actually haven't looked at this file yet (although I've looked at the other one), so if I find the problem, I'll post again.
(By the way, from here on, your messages will be posted immediately, without need for moderation.)
EDIT
Oh, it looks very nice so far!
So regarding the mask.....I'm not clear what you're doing, although I can make some guesses by referring to the image. Are you trying to put a gradient in the wings, like in the PNG you posted in the other topic? I see that you're using the mask to achieve a sort of shading effect, so that the mask has been working otherwise. What I don't understand is where the ellipse comes in? I seem to recall some sort of bug when adding a gradient to a group of ellipses. It may have been fixed by now, because when I came across it, it was a couple of years ago, or more. But I'm not sure.
Anyway, I guess my question at this point, is where the ellipse comes into play? Because you could apply the gradient directly to the wings (instead of green fill, gradient fill).

Re: Use mask on ellipse with gradient fill?
Seems like the gradient is missing - sorry!
I had created an ellipse with it's centre just below the hand holding the wand, as I was hoping to get all components of the wings (the green parts) to have a more-or-less seamless gradient that sort of flowed from one wing to the other.
EDIT: Got it!
Now I'm just going to work on the speckles before uploading it.

Got it!
And the best part I suppose is that I can go back and tweak EVERYTHING (though I'l have to undo a bit to edit some things)
