Hi folks, I am new to the forum and new to Inkscape. I am a long time user of Photoshop (duck!) and I realize that Inkscape is closer to Illustrator than Photoshop, I have been using it to do many things in the past that I guess PS wasn't really meant for. One thing that has always been a challenge for me was drawing any kind of vectors...well, I guess I should say, any vector graphics that were usable.

Since Inkscape claims to be good for vector art, how can I get started? Are there any good tutorials to try? I did some searching, but did'nt find much on the subject.

One of my first projects I would like to tackle is creating a new logo for my company. I need to create several sine waves and then add the text. I started to play with the Bezier tool, but was quickly overwhelmed with it and decided to post here for some help.

Any help would be great!

In the Help menu of the Inkscape window, are many useful links. Tutorials, cover the basics. Inkscape Manual is the best guide. In that Guide are several tutorials listed under Quick Start.

Plus you can find some great video tutorials at http://screencasters.heathenx.org/

Check out the links in my sig, and search google for inkscape tutorials, you'll find a lot of short ones that can help you practice the basics.

i'm also a new user who needs some help .. can't find answer to my problem anywhere within or without this forum
am working on a logo that incorporates english and cyrillic fonts that i have stored on my mac
i somehow changed the text font to these cyrillic letters and can't figure out what the heck i did ...cripes i may have clicked the save as default button but regardless, i need to continue the logo in english characters now.. can someone help me ? .. ?

Doesn't this reset your default font to Bitstream Vera Sans or any other font with latin characters?

1. open the 'Text & Font' dialog: 'Ctrl+Shift+T' or menu 'Text > Text & Font…'
2. select a font with latin characters like Bitstream Vera Sans or Arial
3. apply 'Set as default' (button in the lower left corner)
