Years ago when I first joined this forum, I remember reading a thread which gave instructions on something like a mirror image. For example like a butterfly, where you would only have to draw one wing, then use this mirror routine to create the other. But I can't find it anymore.

Here's my problem. I was playing with the Stitch Sub-Path LPE, and trying to create a feather. And I got one side done:



But when I Flip Vertical, I get this:



Flipping that Horizontal gets this:



I've tried Reversing the Path, but that results in the original that's rotated 180 degrees, just like the 3rd screen shot.

Is there any way to avoid making the other side of the feather, except backwards from the first side? Or perhaps there still exists this mirror image thing??

Not sure about that question ( ) - but if you group the path with the 'Stitch sub-paths' LPE, before duplicating and flipping it, you get the expected result. Alternatively you can convert the LPE to a regular path before flipping it.

Seems related to Bug #179842 in Inkscape: “flip, rotate or scale a LPE object”

I think the mirror thingy was one of the experimental LPEs, and those were cut out because they weren't finished. Maybe they reappear some time in the future...

I had thought that perhaps it needed to become a regular path, but did not try Object to Path, because I thought it already was a path. But Object to Path does indeed do the trick, as well as grouping.

After some tweaking, here's the end result. More tweaking needed to add color, though.
