Hi Friends,
This is related to

When I use the Paint Bucket tool to create paths, the path often contains at least one extra node or node overlapping another. Sometimes more than 2 at the same place on the canvas. And sometimes, the same path might contain 2 or 3 separate instances or overlapping nodes. Please see my sample SVG file below. Is this just because the bucket tool is not really "polished" yet? That that's just how it goes for now, until improvements are made? Or should it be called a bug? (I could provide other files showing this behavior, if necessary....maybe several.)
Here are screenshots, to direct your attention:
This is in Inkscape 0.48 stable release, Windows 7, 64-bit. But I can confirm and provide sample files for Inkscape 0.47 on Windows XP, 32-bit, if needed
Thanks for your help -- always much appreciated

This applies to many more things than just the bucket. I also get such results from boolean operations, stroke to path conversions, and so on.

Yes, yes!
Please see your other topic viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7505
Let's get a list of all circumstances, and sample files ready. With ~suv's guidance, maybe we can make a comprehensive report for Launchpad.

Re: extra overlapping nodes with Paint Bucket paths in 0.48
A case where this happens nearly every time: Create a closed path with four nodes. Set the nodes to auto-smooth. Now you have something like a potato. Select 2 neighboring nodes and move them. One not selected node will be replaced with at least 1 doubled node.

"earlier..." ???
Sept 2008!!
I watched a segment on "60 Minutes" (US news magazine tv show) last night, about people who can tell you everything that happened to them on any particular day. It's not very common. They interviewed 6 people for the story, and I think that's the whole subject pool for the study! ~suv, maybe you should inquire about participating in the research? Because you can do that too, right? Or is it more like a photographic, or eidetic memory? Whatever it is, Inkscape and the Inkscape community are lucky to have you working on it!
But back to the topic. I HAD forgotten about that. So the extra node thing, that we're discussing in a different topic, is not what's happening with the paint bucket tool, right?
Ok then, thanks for your help (and amazing memory )!

Off topic:
Nope, it's just virtual legwork i.e. spending (a lot of) time searching for related information on the web (and in the forum, in the bug tracker, in the mailing-list archives, …). (I didn't even know about Inkscape nor had a computer or web access in 2008 ;) ).brynn wrote:Because you can do that too, right?
