Filename and Path in the Window's title bar

Postby larienna » Tue Oct 05, 2010 12:23 am

Sometimes, the window's title bar of inkscape show the whole path with file name, and sometimes it only show the file name.

Is there a way to make sure it always do one or the other. Since I use a lot of sub-folders, Most of the time, my path is so long that I cannot see the file name. So I would prefer not showing the path in the title bar.

This is probably your OS some of the time and inkscape some of the time, so find your os setting for window titling and see if it has "show entire filepath in window title" checked (On windows, it's control panels/folder options/view tab, wording and location may be different on other sysytems)
Your mind is what you think it is.

Sometimes, the window's title bar of inkscape show the whole path with file name, and sometimes it only show the file name.

Here's what I've noticed. If I open an Inkscape image file titled, let's say "ImageA", then the titlebar will say "ImageA.svg - Inkscape". But after I've edited that file, and click Save, then the full path is displayed in the titlebar. I don't know why this happens

What is the problem with having the full path displayed in the titlebar, for you? If it's privacy/security, the only way someone else might see the full path, is if you took a full screen shot, after having editted and saved, and sent it to someone. If you upload the file, you will, as far as I know, upload directly from your file manager (Windows Explorer, in Windows), and therefore only the image name will show as the title, not the full file path.

If there's another reason, let us know, and we can offer suggestions, hopefully :D

Simple, I am a library technician which mean I classify stuff for living. So my files are very classified. Here is an example of path for the recent project I worked on:

"D:\Eric\ActiveFiles\300 Hobby\310 Jeux\312 Jeux Publies\312.1 Jeux Table\312.13 Guerre\Dune Express\My Variant\Pictures"

As you can see, the path is so long that I cannot actually see the file name at the end which is more important than the whole path itself. So just seeing the file name or the last 2 directories and the file name would be enough.

Seconding this request - I can't imagine how the path could be useful. In windows, when the window appears in the taskbar, all you can see is "C:\Users\Name", before it cuts off.

Obviously, that isn't useful information.

There should at least be a setting for this.

Official new feature requests are taken at Launchpad https://launchpad.net/inkscape. Be sure to search first, in case someone else has already requested it. If so, you can a add comment, or subscribe using "This affects me too" button (or something like that). :D
