but i can't remember how it was done, have used the search, but did me no good.
here in an example of what i'm trying to do.
the top object "leaves" have to Be the stroke-type.

Re: object to stroke type
Hi nesDK,
Long time no see
I don't know any other way, besides Pattern Along Path. There is both an extension and LPE. I think the LPE automatically applies Single stretched. But I think you may be looking for Repeated. Also, sometimes additional nodes will help it to follow the path better, so you could try adding nodes

Re: object to stroke type
Hello, I'm using a Mac with Mountain Lion and Inkscape 0.48.
If you are having problems with pattern on path an alternative is to use Path/Path Effect Editor/Interpolate Sub Path.
Here is a video that may get you started.

Here is what I did with your design. I only used one leaf so it may not be exactly what you are looking for.
I cannot use Pattern on Path in Mountain Lion, seems to be a "bug" but most things you'd do in pattern on path can be done in Interpolate. I hope this helps.

Re: object to stroke type
It seems like you want to define a new stroke style, so that it will appear in the fill and stroke palette as a stroke, and can be used to outline an object, just like the pre-defined strokes that come with Inkscape. I don't know how to do that, but maybe you could create a custom stroke marker to get a similar effect.

Re: object to stroke type
Copy the leaves object (ctrl-c) and make the shape "From Clipboard"? This sets up a LPE as single/stretched, but you can use the LPE editor to change that after.
