I have no trouble inputting Chinese text into the Windows version of Inkscape using the Windows Chinese input methods.
However, the Mac Version (downloaded yesterday) doesn't allow me to input using the Mac's native Chinese input methods. It does allow me to copy and paste from other applications, so it's not the font. The input method doesn't work when typing in the File-Metadata area either, so it seems to be a problem throughout the application.
Unfortunately, copying and pasting is not a viable alternative in the long run, but I'm hoping there's some easy solution I'm overlooking.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks in advance,
Jon R.

Re: Chinese on the Mac
I also have the same problem with input. Even worse, copy and paste doesn't work either. I tried installing the newest version Inkscape 0.48.2 r9819 and it still doesn't work. Any work arounds would be appreciated. Thanks.

Possibly this helps: in the Preferences of X11/XQuartz, on the 'Input' pane, enableinjack99 wrote:I also have the same problem with input.
- [x] Follow system keyboard layout
Possibly you have tinkered with the Pasteboard settings of X11/XQuartz and disabled syncing of data between the two pasteboard systems completely? Please read this earlier reply about the recommended Pasteboard/CLIPBOARD settings in X11/XQuartz:injack99 wrote:Even worse, copy and paste doesn't work either.

(Note: applies to all available versions of X11/XQuartz - for Mac OS X Leopard up to the latest OS X Mountain Lion)
Additional information with regard to syncing data between native and X11-based applications (i.e. between the native Pasteboard and X11's CLIPBOARD system) might be found in these related topics :
Re: Chinese on the Mac
Thank you. I got the pasting to work now so its a work around. But for the input method I tried enabling the [follow system keyboard layout] in the XQuartz preference input pane but still the Chinese input method does not work. Normally when you input Chinese the characters, the phonetic spelling (pin-yin method) would be underlined so that when you hit space bar it allows you to select the right character. But the underlining does not appear and you can only type the roman characters.
