Hi, I'm learning Inkscape by myself and have made a second simpler version of wings for a logo I'm trying to create. This pic shows how I made it.

This is the final image, I've just added dropshadows. Do I need to do anything to make the file smaller or anything in particular to finish the file? Sorry for my confusion.

Advice for finishing file.
Re: Advice for finishing file.
I can only see a tiny bit of your image, in your finished file. The probably means you don't have it inside the page borders. So one thing you can do to finish the image is to get it inside the page border. There are 2 ways to do that, depending on whether you have a custom page size or not.
If it doesn't matter what size the finished image page is, do this:
-- Select All (Ctrl + a)
-- File menu > Document Properties > Page tab > Page Size > Custom Size > Resize page to content
That makes the page fit perfectly to the image, without changing the image size.
If you had previously set up a custom size for the page, and you need to keep it that way, do this:
-- Select All (Ctrl + a)
-- Object menu > Aligh and Distribute
-- In the Relative To dropdown menu, click Page
-- Click Center on Vertical Axis button
-- Click Center on Horizontal Axis button
It doesn't look like such a large image, that it's size would be a problem. But I always think it's a good idea to keep files a slim and trim as possible. To do that, click File menu > Clean Up Document. Also, if there are objects that you don't need anymore, you can delete them.
However, if there's any text in the file, and you think you may some day want to edit the text, be sure and save the text, as text, on a hidden layer. Because even though you may need the text to be converted to paths, for whatever you're going to do with the logo, once it's converted to paths, it can't be converted back to text. So the only way you could edit the text is to type new text. (It's not uncommon for us to get messages from people who didn't do this, and they want some magic trick to edit their text. Half the time they don't even know what kind of font was used, which makes it even harder to do.) So if you save the text as text in the file, you'll never have that problem!

Re: Advice for finishing file.
Oh thank you so much Bryn, I am working on adding text and will do as you've suggested. So when I've completely finished the logo, I should go "Clean Up Document" and that won't visibly alter the logo just simplify/make the file smaller?
This is how the image looks now, what was incorrectly posted above.

Re: Advice for finishing file.
Oh, that looks nice!
No, Clean Up Document will not visibly affect the image. It might or might not make the file smaller. If it doesn't make it smaller, that means there wasn't any excessive data in the file, to begin with.

Re: Advice for finishing file.
Hi.
Seems like you know how to use the basic tools to some extent, yet I would suggest looking into the designing part a bit more.
That wing doesn't work so well for a logo.
Check out these for advices.

Thanks Brynn

I need to use it for a neck label (heat press) which goes on the inside back neck of tshirts. I want it to be 3" x 1.25" and I was told to make it 200 dpi. When I save it as a png or pdf I lose the drop shadow but it probably doesn't matter for the neck label. I tried saving it rasterized and unrasterized but it makes no difference.

Lazur, thanks for your honesty. I know the way I made it was not the best way to do it but even after watching various tutorials I could not fathom how to get the wings to look like this using other better methods. I looked at things like Union, etc. but just could not do it. So I did it a painstaking way of matching up nodes from shapes I created.

Re: Advice for finishing file.
Now I'm having another problem uploading the finished file to the company doing the heat press neck labels. I can upload it as an svg, png, etc.. I've been doing it as an svg as it alters the image less. I grouped everything and converted it to Path. The text has nodes, should this mean that it was converted from text to an object/image, right?
This is what I have..
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7ulxjgb66ycru ... L.svg?dl=0
This is what it looks like once I've uploaded to the company. Text/font changed and some feathers appear black. They told me that I need to convert to curves(?) "I believe that Inkscape does convert to curves. You may want to do a Google search for instructions. Unfortunately, there is no other way to receive the file correctly."

Re: Advice for finishing file.
Are you sure they got the right file? The text looks like what happens when the renderer doesn't have the correct font. That wont happen with paths (outlines/curves).
I'd delete the shadows and provide a pdf file, if acceptable. It looks like the rendering of the svg is arbitrarily adding fills.

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: Advice for finishing file.
Hi tylerdurden, I eventually found that a fill was added to the text, you're right. It wasn't visible until I tried to make the writing darker and ended up with a big black splotch LOL.
I also made the whole logo darker as the whole thing would have come out rather thin on the neck label I think. Then I put it into Photoshop and saved it as a PSD and finally now have this uploaded to the company doing the neck labels. Just hoping that the edge isn't too close to the image. they do add extra space around for cutting the transfers on the gang sheets. Hopefully that's not something else I've managed to do wrong!

Re: Advice for finishing file.
Sorry I haven't been around for few days. I think we could have made the file work, with SVG in Inkscape. But since you've gotten something workable, I won't go into it.
But I'm glad you've got something that will work
