Converting SVG to PDF with Inkscape

Postby jwilliam » Fri Feb 19, 2010 3:03 am

Hi. I have Inkscape installed on my Linux web server. I'm using it on the command line to convert SVG files to PDF, which in my first few tests seems to work well. Here is what I'd like to do:

My .svg files will contain low resolution graphics (72 dpi) and svg fonts created from TTF's, OTF's or Postscript fonts. When I convert from SVG to PDF, I'd like to swap the graphics with high-rez (300 dpi) graphics and also swap the fonts with the original font from which it was created (ie, the TTF or OTF) and embed that in the PDF.

Does Inkscape have any sort of features that would make this possible during the conversion, or would I need to adjust the SVG XML with something like PHP code before the conversion took place?

I don't think Inkscape can embed fonts yet, but there is a setting for dpi on export in Inkscape Preferences.
