Information on the Eraser Tool?

Hi Everyone

I started using Inkscape today and found that it is very complicated. First, is there any way that the Eraser Tool only erases where I put it, instead of the entire stroke? It aggravates me a lot and it would help if that option is available. Second, is there a way to draw straight lines, and then rotating it? I found a way to make straight lines but it wouldn't let me rotate it to where I want it to be.

Help!! I am using this to draw an amateur comic book and it would help if these features above are available! Please reply ASAP
