Hello,
I am working on a svg image , rendered from open street map data.
All is working fine, but text is often cropped. The text is all there but the text box is too small for it.
If I decrease the font size the entire text will show up.
How could I widen the text box, whiles maintaining the same font size?
Thank you
a

Re: Text show up cropped

Welcome to InkscapeForum!
If you select the text, then switch to the Text tool, you should see the thin blue line around it, which is the text box. This only appears (as far as I know) on Flowed text. In the bottom, right corner is a tiny diamond-shaped handle. You can grab that with the Text tool pointer, and drag it larger or smaller. Hold the Ctrl key, to keep it in the same proportions.
If you don't see the thin blue line/box, or the handle, there may be another problem. If that's the case, can you show us the SVG file?

Re: Text show up cropped
Thanks brynn,
I did what you said, but only a red line, without any diamond shape, appears around the text. so probably this unflowed text. I tried to Flow into frame, but nothing changed.
Let me attach an example:
So the entile word that is present is: 'West-Kruiskade'
But only 'est-Kruiskade' shows up.
If I decrease the font-size all the text is there.
Thank you for the help

Re: Text show up cropped
Hhmmm....the problem doesn't seem to be happening for me:

There are 2 of these text items in the file. This one inside the page border, and another one FAR up and to the right (around x = 2500 px, y = 3000 px). I don't see any reason why you shouldn't see the whole thing. Can you show us a screenshot of what you see, with the W cut off?
Oh wait....Ok, it's a text on path. I did Shift + D to locate the path it's on. But the status bar says "The object you're trying to select is not in the file (it is in <defs>)" I'm not sure exactly what that means, except that perhaps you copied the text and pasted into the file, but the path it's on didn't come with it.
If I remove it from the path, it jumps FAR up and to the left (around x = -6300, y = 4400 )(approx).
I guess the simple answer is just to type new text, and if you still need it on a path, draw a new path and put the text on it. I don't know, unless you need to do this many times for some reason. Can you give us some history on this file? Like did you type and put the text on a path? Or did you paste it like this from somewhere else?
Edit
I just found something else. Hold on while I investigate

Re: Text show up cropped
Ok, I think I see what's happening. When I type a couple more characters onto the (right) end, it shifts the whole text to the left. First the W disappears, then when I type the next letter, the e disappears, etc. I don't know exactly why it's behaving like that, except that it must have something to do with being text on a path, without having the path in the same file.
What will be the goal from here? Could you just type the text in a new file, and put it on a path yourself? Then it will behave properly. Or is there some reason why that won't work?

Hi.
Have a look at this post; https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1110026
According to this just a few fonts are affected.
I changed the font in your example and text (re)- appears.

Hi Ragnar,
It doesn't seem to be flowed text though. That was my first thought, after I read the description of the problem. But upon examining the file, it doesn't appear to be flowed text.
Unless putting text on path changes it to flowed?? I don't think it does...?
