Permission Issue

Postby trialtest » Thu Aug 16, 2012 2:16 pm

Can we use the screenshots of Inkscape for personal or commercial purpose? I know somewhere in the FAQ mentions that we are free to use and distribute it for any purpose, but it does not cover the usage of its screenshots.

Also, if we were able to use it legally, how could we receive an official permission from the credit owner? It does not seem to have any contact methods with the credit owner.

To Administrators or Moderators: Please answer the question either by replying this message, using private messaging or even using my e-mail specified in the member's information.

Thank you very much.

I'm not an authority on licensing, but I would suggest if you can freely copy, edit, and distribute Inkscape (even sell it), for commercial or personal use, then I would suggest you are also free to use screenshots of it.

I don't know that anyone "owns" Inkscape, to be able to offer credit. You could credit the lead developers, or Inkscape.org.

As long as they are screenshots of your work, it shouldn't be a problem. Shots of the blank canvas shouldn't be a problem at all. At least that's my understanding -- there certainly are hundreds of video tutorials on the internet :D
