How to convert a line from "object to path" back to normal?

Postby gfiguer » Mon Jun 02, 2014 12:41 am

Hey,
I apologize if this has been posted before, I am new to inkscape and was wondering if there is a way to convert a bezier line that has been turned into "object to path" back to original editing state where I can edit the curves and not the thickness of lines?
Thank you

Hi.

Probably you just have to switch from object select tool (F2) to the node tool (F1)?
Bezier curves are already paths.

That's not it. Before I made my bezier curve into an "object to path" I was able to adjust the nodes to either extend it or curve it. When I turned it to "object to path" I could edit the nodes that effect the thickness of the line. I am satisfied with the thickness but would like to go back to editing the actual lines curvature and length. Is that possible?

Did you use the pen tool?

Once you finished drawing it by pressing Enter, just switch to the node tool.

Are you sure you did "Object to Path" and not "Stroke to Path"?

In that case I'm guessing that you had the "Shape" dropdown set to something other than "none", which adds the "Pattern Along Path" live path effect to the Bezier to give you shaped paths. Using "Object to path" on those will fix the path effect, converting it into a closed path that describes the shape and losing any history of the original skeleton path.

There's no trivial way to get back to the original path. It might be possible to get approximately there with a bit of manual labour and the interpolate extension, but it's probably not worth the effort.
